Japan without the sugar

There ain't no samurai, there are few geisha, Japanese are not the most polite people in the world. In practice, there is no special love or care for nature, nor is Japan uniquely unique. Sorry, but the sugar-coated fantasyland-Japan of Edwin O. Reischauer et al does not exist--if it ever did.

We're doomed

"When patients cough, sneeze or speak, viruses in their saliva fly 2 or 3 meters," he said. Flu may be transmitted if the infected saliva reaches someone else's mouth or nose, or their hands and they rub their eyes or eat with them, he added.

Those worried about infection should also be careful when removing their masks...

...."You don't want to touch its surface, which has probably absorbed other people's saliva." Japan Times.

Think about that on your next adventure in public.

Meanwhile, folks in New York have other things to worry about: "...
to air-kiss or not to air-kiss?"
